EN 397:2025 – The New European Standard for Industrial Helmets

The new EN 397:2025 standard represents the most significant revision of industrial helmets in the past 30 years, updating protection requirements to meet modern working conditions.

The main change is the introduction of two types of helmets:

Type 1: Protection against falling objects and impacts to the top of the helmet, as in the previous standard.

Type 2: Provides additional protection against lateral impacts (front, back, and sides) and features a mandatory chin strap for improved stability.

The new standard also includes additional testing options for electrical insulation, high temperatures, high visibility, and use in hazardous environments, as well as stricter compatibility checks with accessories such as face shields and ear protectors.

Helmets certified under EN 397:2012 remain valid until their certification expires, while during the transition period, dual certification may apply.

The EN 397:2025 offers more comprehensive protection and better addresses the risks of modern industrial and construction environments.
